A man walking along a beach happened to find a bottle. He looked around, saw no one, and opened it. A genie emerged and thanked him for setting him free.

"To repay your kindness, I'll grant you one wish—but only one," said the genie.

After a moment's thought, the man said, "I've always wanted to visit Hawaii, but I've never been able to. Planes and boats make me sick and frighten me. So I'd like a road from here to Hawaii."

The genie considered this for a few minutes. "No, I don't think I can do that. Just imagine all the work involved: the supports for the highway, how long they'd have to be to reach the ocean floor, all the paving required. No, that's asking too much."

The man thought for another minute. "There is something else I've always wanted. I'd like to understand women. What makes them laugh or cry? Why are their moods so changeable? Why is it so hard to get along with them? Basically, what makes them tick?"

The genie hesitated, then asked, "So, would you like that road to Hawaii to have two lanes or four?"
