Enjoying Life
After years of devoting his energy to work, a sixty-year-old man had saved a modest sum. He decided to visit Thailand, having heard there were plenty of places offering adult entertainment. He wanted a taste of life's pleasures.
At his hotel, he asked a waiter where to go and received detailed directions. That evening he dressed smartly and set out.
At a fork in the road, two signs pointed in different directions: 'For people with lots of money' and 'For people with little money.' He thought, 'I haven't saved that much,' and took the second road.
At the next fork, the signs read 'For the young' and 'For the old.' He trudged down the road for the old.
The next pair said 'For the handsome' and 'For the ugly.' 'I'm sixty. What looks have I got left?' he thought, and took the second path, encouraging himself: 'Nearly there. Keep going!'
At the next fork, one sign said 'For those with stamina and plenty of energy'; the other, 'For those with none left.' He thought, 'I'm old. I haven't got much energy. I only want to enjoy a little pleasure before it's too late.' Again, he took the second road.
He shuffled painfully onward, imagining the delights ahead. At the end, a single sign hung high above him. He found something to stand on so he could read the next instruction:
'Little money, old, ugly, and no stamina? Just go home, old man!'
