A Great Scientific Discovery
A professor was conducting a very important study. He trained a flea to understand and obey the command 'Jump!'
In the first stage of the experiment, he removed one of the flea's legs and ordered it to jump. The tiny insect obeyed. He noted, 'After the removal of one leg, the flea's organs still function normally.'
Next he removed another leg and said, 'Jump!' The flea jumped, and the pleased professor wrote, 'After the removal of two legs, the flea's organs still function normally.'
In the next stage, he left the flea with only one leg and told it to jump. It leaped up as usual. He recorded, 'The flea's organs function normally when it has only one leg.'
Finally, he removed the remaining leg and told the flea to jump. It lay motionless. He repeated the experiment several times, with the same result each time.
His conclusion was: 'When all its legs are removed, a flea loses its hearing.'
