A New Way to Feed Pigs
A farmer kept a large herd of pigs. One day, a stranger visited his farm and asked what he fed them.
"Bran, corn, and things like that," the farmer replied.
The man became angry. "I'm an inspector from the Society for the Protection of Animals, and I don't think you're treating these pigs properly. Instead of giving them the food they deserve, you're feeding them waste!" He promptly issued the farmer a fine.
A few days later, another man came and asked the same question. Now wary, the farmer replied, "I feed them very well. Their daily menu includes salmon, caviar, shrimp, steak..."
This answer infuriated the visitor. "How can you be so unjust? You give pigs lavish meals while so many people are starving every day! I'm from the United Nations, and I'm fining you for this extravagance."
After the UN official left, another visitor arrived and asked exactly the same question. The farmer hesitated for a few minutes, then answered:
"I give each pig five dollars. They can buy whatever they want to eat!"
