Giving Away the Position
A commander summoned a young soldier for a reprimand.
"Why did you expose your unit's ambush position during the recent exercise? And why did you shout at—and almost assault—two local civilians?"
"Sir, following my orders, I'd camouflaged myself as a tree stump. Then a local couple came and sat against the stump—my back. First they talked about love, being parted like birds from their nests and leaves from their branches, and swore undying devotion..."
"And then?"
"Although I had to listen to all those lies, I kept quiet. I was determined not to give away our position. Then came the cuddling, caressing, kissing, and demands for this and that. Still, I controlled myself."
"Slow down. What happened next?"
"Well, about fifteen minutes after they were finished, the man suddenly pulled out a pocketknife and started carving a heart and their intertwined initials into the stump—my backside! I couldn't take any more. I'm still furious just thinking about it!"
