Some Things Can't Be Explained
Early one morning, a farmer sat in a bar drinking steadily until he was thoroughly drunk. A neighbor passing by asked, "Why are you sitting here getting drunk on such a beautiful morning?"
"Some things just can't be explained."
"What happened that was so terrible?"
The farmer tried to make him understand. "This morning, I went to milk my cow. Just as the bucket was nearly full, she lifted her left leg and kicked it over."
"That doesn't sound so terrible. What's the big deal?"
"Some things just can't be explained."
"What happened next?"
The farmer hesitated. "I took her left leg and tied it to a post on the left. Then I sat down and started milking again. Just as I was finishing, the devil lifted her right leg and kicked the bucket over again."
"Again?"
"Yes. Some things just can't be explained. This time, I tied her right leg to a post on the right and started again. When the bucket was nearly full, the stupid cow flicked her tail and knocked it over."
"Oh dear! You must have been furious. But surely that isn't enough to make you sit here looking so miserable."
"That wasn't all," the farmer continued. "I'd run out of rope, so I took off my belt and tied her tail to the roof of the cowshed. Then my trousers fell down—and my wife walked in. Some things just can't be explained."
