Archaeological Discoveries
At an international archaeology conference, leading scientists from Russia, the United States, and Vietnam presented the latest discoveries from their countries.
The Russians began. They had dug a thousand meters below the soil of Siberia and found a piece of copper wire. They concluded that their ancestors had telephones a thousand years ago. A round of applause greeted the announcement.
Next, the American archaeologists announced their great discovery. They had dug more than five thousand meters down in West Texas and, remarkably, found transparent glass fibers. Their conclusion: Americans' ancestors had used fiber-optic cables five thousand years ago. This time, the enthusiastic applause was even louder and longer.
Finally, it was the Vietnamese scientists' turn. The delegates held their breath as they waited. The scientists announced that they had dug ten thousand meters beneath Turtle Tower in Hanoi and found... absolutely nothing.
Their conclusion was that the Vietnamese had satellites and mobile phones ten thousand years ago.
Thunderous applause filled the hall.
