What More Did You Want?
Jim lived near a river and was deeply religious. One day the river rose and flooded the town, forcing him onto a porch just below the roof.
A man rowed up and told Jim to get into his boat. "No, it's all right," Jim said. "God will look after me." The man rowed away.
The water rose, and Jim climbed onto the roof. Another boat arrived, and its occupant called to him. Again Jim replied, "No, it's all right. God will look after me." The boat left.
As the water rose higher, Jim climbed onto the chimney. A helicopter arrived and lowered a rope ladder. A woman inside called for him to climb aboard.
"I'm fine here," Jim said.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. I'm certain God will help me."
Eventually the water rose too high, and Jim drowned. In heaven, he confronted God. "You told me you'd help! What happened?"
God replied, "I sent you two boats and a helicopter. What more did you want?"
